York is a wonderful city with a really good feel about it. At the moment the Christmas markets are there with a huge selection of food, drinks and present ideas. Monk Bar Choclatiers in the Shambles is definitely worth a visit! Betty's tearoom too 👍

Definitely worth visiting York Minster for a guided tour; the National Rail Museum is interesting too, a good way to spend an hour or so. If you have time, do a day trip by train to Harrogate and stop off at Knaresborough for an hour or 2 en route

Because everything is close by we managed to see the majority of attractions in just three days. The history museum and ghost walk were the highlights of our stay. Best to pre-book Jorvik. Betty's is a special treat and Ask Italian for the building!

We had an excellent short stay in York - helped, it is true, by the good weather we were lucky enough to enjoy. The Minster is quite magnificent. And hearing the organ and the choir during the Evensong service which we attended was beyond superb.

Good
Incredibly small, thus very easy to get around by walking, but incredibly busy even in the off season. Lots of cars, some stores had queues that went outside the building. Lots of traffic from online virality, so expect people stopping for photos.

Wear flat shoes cobblestone. And bring healthy appetite. Food is great. Love the more relaxed pace and how chatty everyone is. Beautiful architecture and so much history everywhere - book an evening tour like the ghost tour for bit more fun

Expect to be one of thousands of tourists here! The city and the people in it cope with it all very well. If you get the chance to walk along the walls in the evening it's a great experience; however they're not always open at that time.

Plenty to see and do, a walk around the City wall is a must. We visited the National Railway Museum, Clifford's Tower, Fairfax House, Jorvik Viking Centre, York's Chocolate Story and even Dick Turpin's grave. All are recommended.
"Booked a 1 night stay over in York on our way to Pendle, we had room 3 on the lower level. Getting a large suitcase down the 2 flights of stairs is a bit of a challenge but the room itself was well equipped, clean, lovely powerful shower, comfy bed and coffee making facilities. Perfect for what we wanted
Check in was available when we turned up early which was a nice surprise.
Very quiet with it being tucked away between shops."
"Lovely place to stay nice and quiet and close to all amenities. Bus stop across the rd takes you right into the city center. Friendly helpful staff, would definitely stay again. "
"Friendliest front desk and wait staff.
Nice breakfast. Full breakfast with menu options plus buffet. Buffet only was a bit limited, but had good fruit.
Room cleaning staff did fantastic job, just a bit over eager in the mornings, knocking on your door every 5-10 minutes!"
"A good old english pub with a few quirks and eccentricities, friendly helpful staff and owner. Our flat had two rooms, a kitchen bathroom and lounge."
"Great hotel. Our room was river view with lovely view of the Minster too. Breakfast loads of choice. Baggage store if needed. Central location. Easy walk to station and all city attractions."
"Absolutely could not fault the staff. The room was clean and we enjoyed being close to York St John University and the shopping hub of the city centre. The food was okay although at breakfast there was sometimes bits missing or run out- no hot water for tea, run out of sausages, etc…. The staff were very attentive and the little texts to check in on us during our stay were lovely. "
"A splendid hotel, very comfortable and made extremely welcome. The room was fantastic and the shower very good. Although we already had plans for our evening meal elsewhere, we did have a lovely breakfast 😋 "
"It was very clean and the facilities were as described. We had a twin room. It was downstairs next to the front door but it was very quiet in the property. We weren’t disturbed. Good tea and coffee making facilities. Fridge and bottled water provided. Host was on hand when we checked in and explained everything we needed to know. Just stayed on night. Met our needs comfortably. Uber from Betty’s York area around £5 each way. It is walkable too. "
"Very historic property which is close to train station and all sites of interest. Overall great service. It should be noted that there is no AC nor elevator do to historic nature of property. Usually not a big deal as it is seldom "warm" in York and there are staff who will assist if one needs help with luggage. Bathroom was wonderful."
"Great smaller hotel right in the heart of it all! A few steps away from everything you’d want/need in York, friendly staff, nice breakfast…a great place I’d unquestionably stay at again!"
