I've lived in Berkeley in the past and I'm glad I'm back. Berkeley has always felt safe for me to walk around (even the shadier parts) and I usually find everything I need within walking or bus distance. Also many amazing cuisine options.

Berkeley has perhaps the earliest Reuse Center in the country with a vast warehouse of things that people have dropped off and that you can buy for a song

We were disappointed to see so much homelessness on the streets . There was a lot of fast food as its a major area next to the University. The University especially the Campanile is amazing.

We enjoyed dining, shopping, and walking in Berkeley, but chose the location primarily for it's proximity to our friends. We will go out of our way to visit the Oceanview diner again! We really enjoyed the cool, foggy, and even rainy waterfront.

Until 10 years ago I'd lived in Berkeley most of my life. The city has allowed its residential streets to deteriorate to a shocking degree, and Telegraph Ave, the student area near the campus, is Grunge City. Still, a lot to like.

Berkeley is a nice town, but the biggest detractors are the number of indigent people hanging around. The city really needs to get a handle on this as it poses a serious health hazard and safety concern.
