Wow! What an incredible stay! Probably the best experience of our entire trip to Japan. The owner was incredibly kind and welcoming, even showing us different local matcha varieties used during the meals. This hotel is actually far from Kyoto, so be prepared for a very long ride from either the train station or airport. The food was excellent and the room was very basic. Comfortable, but no frills. For the price I was expecting something a little nicer. If you want an authentic Japanese experience, this place is perfect.

Loved this family-owned and operated Ryokan. The attention to detail and service was impeccable. The meals were an experience onto their own - absolutely delightful and delicious. Wonderful location to hike and visit temples near by. Secluded and serene location in the mountains. A little hard to get to from Kyoto, but worth the effort. Wish we had stayed longer.

Beautiful Setting; Wonderful Food

We loved our stay at the Seryo Ryokan. The setting was perfect and the service fantastic. It had been many years since I was last in Ohara and it brought back memories. The staff went out of their way to address our needs. But the best thing about our stay was the superb dinner and wonderful breakfast. What a treat! We definitely would like to return to Ohara and stay here again.

If you are looking for a traditional ryokan and a more remote area, this is the perfect place. Although it is about 45 mins from Kyoto train station, you will not be disappointed. Upon arrival, we were immediatelty greeted by the staff and welcomed with matcha tea while our bags were taken to our rooms. The rooms were very clean and beautifully decorated. Our room featured a private onsen overlooking the mountains. It was absolutely breathtaking. Both dinner and breakfast were amazing! We stayed one night and spent the next morning walking around the small town which was quite quaint and adorable. We would definitely stay here again!
