Overnight Stop
Room was a little small and had no work area to use computer. The pub was closed but I got a meal in the next village and had breakfast at MacDonalds 15 mins from hotel.

The Duke at Clifton
Nice little room but it was boiling hot in there, we had to sleep with a fan on all night. It was quite dusty too. The pub is lovely though, the food was great. It has a lovely beer garden and it is situated in a very nice area.

Clean but small and noisy.
Staff pleasant, very clean. It did the job for us but room no 6 isn't fab, I'd imagine on a hot night having to keep the window open is very noisy. Food choice very poor for vegans, luckily the Red Lion at Deddington had amazing food. Would have expected to pay less for such a small room, very noisy floorboards everywhere, en suite was good tbf and it was all very clean.

We had not been told that the pub closed at 5pm on a Sunday. We arrived at 4pm wanting a drink and a meal but had to drive elsewhere.

The area was beautiful and the propery was a step into history, surrounded by beautiful countryside and thatched roofs, stone buildings, peacefull, quite and dark and silent at night. Staff were ver helpful, room was quaint with good bathroom, flat screen tv, comfy bed, tea and coffee facilities were good, just outside room with toaster and fridge. views were lovely, there are no shops etc that we could see in the village but a walk or trip a mile west to deddington and there are shops and restraunts and pubs. would highly reccommend especially if camping, full camping ameinities available and a nice age old country pub with good beer, they do food but at specific times and not breakfast. loved it.

Fabulous stay
We loved The Duke. We had a very nice en suite room , small but spotlessly clean and lots of extra thoughtful touches added. Love the sit in semi circular bath and electric power shower. My only criticism is that the huge towel rail in there was blisteringly hot and we couldn't find a way of turning it down. It was very warm in the bedroom too but the window wouldn't open. We had a meal in the pub on Friday night, 8 of us and the food and service were fantastic. Then 10 of us had Sunday lunch which again was amazing. It might be classed as 3 star but I think the accommodation more than earns its stars.

Very disappointing for food and sleep
The Duke was a country village pub which initially looked good however this was the start of something not so memorable. The room was clean, the staff polite, the wine lovely and the bed comfy but that's it. The room and bathroom were so hot because of the towel rail being on full that you needed to open the bedroom window but you couldn't because the kitchen air con system clicked on and off every 5 mins all night right outside your window so no sleep after a long drive. The pub food Mac & Cheese was dry, the tacos had no cheese on them and the pork belly with veg noodles had no veg and the noodles were more like pasta. So little or no sleep and poor food, not great really and won't be visiting again. You can do better in Oxfordshire and pubs must try harder

6/10 Good

I stayed in Room 6. Lovely cosy room with a good sized bathroom. It had been an extremely hot day so knew the room would be warm. For some reason I couldn’t get any of the main room lights to work. Neither the main light or the two bedside table lamps. Did search for a main switch. Had to leave the window ope, blind is a bit wonky but I don’t mind some light coming through. Worst thing is the noise of the large air con unit. Didn’t really sleep just dozed as it switches itself on and off all night and really noisy. Think my friend got the better deal sleeping in my camper van in the quiet field. Did book as dog friendly thinking I could have my dog with me but that wasn’t the case, he was allowed in the bar area and camp site. Couldn’t fault the welcome and helpful staff. Very friendly place. Just a shame about the air con unit.

Delightful room and idyllic village
We were delighted with the pretty ensuite room (Number 6) which is at the back of the pub, upstairs. It doesn't have a view- but we didn't need one as we were out from early morning until midnight each day at a local music festival! (so unfortunately we didn't get to try the pub- but it looked really really nice when we checked in).The village and area are STUNNING. There is a fab walk down a bridlepath via the cul de sac opposite the pub. The bed was really comfortable and the room had a nice spacious bathroom. The kettle and tea/coffee facilities are just outside the door. We were delighted with our stay and would definitely go back. The only thing to know if you are a light sleeper (we aren't-we slept like logs) is that there is a fridge cooler motor which runs just outside the window intermittently. No complaints from us though- we loved our stay here! Wish it had been for more than 3 nights. Thank you The Duke at Clifton for a much needed peaceful break! :-)

2/10 Poor

We would not use it again or recommend it to anyone. The food was ok but nothing special but very pricy. They did not offer breakfast and one of the staff suggested we go 2 miles up the road to a good Hotel!!!. To reach our room we had to clime a set of iron open tread stairs outside to reach a locked door with a key code safe, you open the safe you obtained a key for the room. Our room had nowhere to hang your cloths. There was no glasses for drinking or cleaning your teeth unless you went out in the hall to find them. To make a cup of tea or coffee you had to go out in the hall for the facility unfortunately there was no coffee bags the had run out and nobody had bothered to replace them. We had no hot water for a shower or bath. The only ventilation in the very small room was a small window unfortunately right outside and slightly below the window was an extractor fan going on and off all night I would thing it was something to do with the pubs refrigerator system. When we left and went to hand in the key the whole pub was locked up so we could not hand the key back to the owner luckily a lady passed by and said she would take the key back to the owners who lived next door. Good job there was not a fire during the night with nobody on the premises. How they got a licence beats me and it cost £80 for room so small you could not swing a cat round in it. We deserve our money back. I explained everything to the lady I gave the key to who said she would report in detail.
