10/10 Excellent

I loved our huge room with private balcony onsen and the Japanese design of the room. Very friendly staff. Breakfast and dinner were really good and for us more than sufficient in quantity. They have a rotating set of 3 different dinners, so day 4 = day 1, but for us that was fine. Bed was a bit on the hard side but I got used to it.

Wonderful, peaceful stay! The private onsen room was everything we hoped for and more. Everything was very clean and tidy. The staff was wonderful and the food was delicious. Having a view of the river was sublime, and it was walkable to the major sites in Nikko! Lovely in every way!

The staff and service were excellent, the rooms were spacious and lovely, we loved our private balcony bath, and dinner and breakfast were fantastic. Highly recommend staying here.

10/10 Excellent

Amazing Ryokan. Great location. Bridge and shrines are walkable, but there are some hills to reach the shrines. Easy access to bus stop to take you to the falls. The public bath was nice and clean. Staff were very nice and helpful. The food was delicious from breakfast to the dinner. We were happy with the variety and everything was VERY fresh and featured local foods such as the Tochigi beef. The only suggestion is more explanation of what we were eating. It was a very memorable experience and we would highly recommend.

This is a wonderful property situated along the banks of the Otani River in Nikko. It’s a short ride from either of the two train stations in Nikko, and right across the road from the major cultural attractions of the city. I selected one of their premium rooms that included a private rotenburo tub that is on the “balcony” that overlooks the flowing river. It was well worth the investment! The room was hugely spacious, well appointed and clean. The staff was welcoming and extremely gracious from start to finish. The meals (breakfast and dinner are inclusive with the “half board” booking) were outstanding, using seasonal ingredients and renown locally produced items. They are prepared and presented in the classic Japanese style. The location is incredibly convenient. I was able to walk over to the attractions, spend as much time there without rushing, and come back to the room to rest and refresh. The main road of the city is also an easy walk, and is lined with many quaint shops and restaurants. The property is friendly for non-Japanese speakers, and who would like to respectfully experience a the charm and tradition of staying at a Japanese “inn”.

We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel. The room and facilities are a bit tired but the views, service and onsen were flawless. Dinner and breakfast were very generous and we enjoyed them, though if you’re not into traditional Japanese flavours, you might struggle.

Just amazing staying in full japanese style Ryokan. Japanese Dinner and Breakfast included. Small private onsen in the room. Public onsen in hotel available. Just Perfect!!!
Fabrizio, 1-night trip

10/10 Excellent

Charming ryokan. Onsen on top floor has separate bathing for men and women, lovely way to begin and end the day. The rooms come with half board, so a very special dinner and breakfast filled with Japanese delicacies. Location is convenient, it’s about a 15 minute walk from the tobu Nikko station but you can take the number 1 bus that leaves you a block or so away. Quite convenient to the attractions. Lovely mountainous view with brook from the window.
Elizabeth, 2-night trip

10/10 Excellent

This property was lovely. We stayed in two balcony rooms with private balcony baths and it was brilliant to sit in the bath and watch the river go by. The food (we had dinner and breakfast) was great, particularly the dinner. All the hotel staff were attentive and polite, helping us with anything we needed. Close walk to the nearby shrine and temple complex.
Kendall, 1-night trip

10/10 Excellent

Very nice but some rigid policies
Bruce, 2-night trip

10/10 Excellent

The location was very good - across the street from the shrines. Also, close to the bus stop if you want to take a bus to the waterfall/lake. The room had a beautiful river and hill view, but our room smelled a bit weird because of the enclosed private onsen. The dinner and breakfast were awesome!
1-night trip

Hotel experience was awesome. Located near the world heritage site and you can walk through them in a loop in less than 3 hours. Hotel provides a shuttle from the JR station (need to reserve in advance). We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel (excellent food). They take you to your individual dining room and served the set meals that way. Didn't like how checkout was at 10am. Wish it was at 11am and it would've made the logistic much easier
Kevin, 1-night trip

It was awesome.

Superior Room: lovely big space, with western style beds and traditional tatami mat lounge area that can be sectioned off by sliding panels. Aircon a little bit iffy, but mostly worked with a bit of fiddling about, supplemented by opening windows a bit. Quiet, even with windows open – just the soothing sound of the river. Lovely bathroom with twin wash basins, and private shower and lovely hot onsen bath on a private balcony. Large key locked safe in room. Comfy beds with two pillows available for each. Elaborate Japanese style dinner and breakfast. Staff were very helpful with some English language skills. Great location close to temples and shrines, and also near a bus stop that goes to Kegon falls and nearby ropeway. Also is only a short distance from the Shinkyo Bridge and the northwest end of town. Coffee machine instructions only in Japanese, and Google Translate of them not entirely helpful – had to look up instructions in English on the interweb and YouTube. Only small criticism: no power outlets by beds to charge your phone.
Paul, 2-night trip

8/10 Good

They can pick you up or drop you off at train station if you make reservations. There are English speaker staff. Onsen was pretty good.
