A quirky place! The room was smallish so if you need laptop space and there are two people, it's a little crowded BUT for the price it is great value. Fantastic restaurant. Great food at competitive prices. Friendly folks. Very good undercover parking.

Room had large red cockroaches, not just one but three. I have never seen that before in all my travels. The light in the bathroom didn’t work. A part from that the room was comfortable. Well located, walking distance to esplanade.

Not a resort and misleading photos
This place is not a resort in my view it's a pub with rooms. Unfortunately, the rooms are around the bar, so it's noisy until 10 pm midweek. I would not stay here again. The photo of the pool is not accurate. They have airbrushed out all of the rooms that are at the back and the other side of the pool is the pub bar. Misleading and poor advertising at its best.

Great place to stay, was only there for one night but it is a great location near the Strand. Great dining and bar facilities. Rooms were clean and tidy with motel information and menus in rooms. Really liked the convenient car parking, is a bit tight but very handy to hotel, with cctv. Will definitely stay again.

Photos really are deceiving, looks like an oasis - it’s an old backpackers with a few new cushions and a couple of prints. Rooms are small and have no power points to use, have to unplug fridge or light to access a free one. Noisy, but that’s location. Can’t open curtains, as no nets to cover people looking completely inside the room from outside as they walk by your room. Very basic, and pretty average.

Lovely resort with great facilities and dining options. Staff were helpful and exceptionally friendly. Great location with secure parking. Villa itself is a little run down. Air conditioners don’t work very well so it was quite uncomfortable in that respect however the villa provided ample space for our family with multiple beds, showers and toilets. Overall, we enjoyed our short stay, thank you.

Really excellent property and would definitely stay there again. The location couldn’t be better, the pool and restaurant on level 3 was lovely, as was the breakfast and coffee downstairs. The room was a good size and the bed was quite comfortable. The shower was a little strange with the water flowing underneath the door to a central drain in the bathroom but wasn’t an issue at all. The staff were lovely and couldn’t fault their service. Highly recommended!

The hotel rooms are directly adjacent to the rooftop restaurant, which gets loud and can stay loud very late into the night. Multiple nights we were woken by yelling and people running past our door. The rooms are small and only suitable for more than one person if they are very close. The bathroom/shower area has no privacy, so we frequently left the room while the other was showering. There's a small underground parking garage suitable for compact cars. I had a full-size three- row SUV, and scraped the frame a couple times entering and exiting the steep ramp. Prices are what you would expect for the area. It's a few blocks from the Strand (easy walking) and avoids higher prices. Very close to the ferries to Magnetic Island. Staff are friendly. Food in the restaurants is good. Pool looks nice, although we didn't use it. Separating the rooms from restaurant parties would go a long way towards making this a hidden gem. A door (even a curtain) would certainly help the privacy issue with the bathroom.

We stayed at the Rambutan while I was competing in the Duathlon world championships in Townsville. The night before my race, the hotel hosted two parties on their rooftop common area (a bachelorette party and a wedding reception). This area is right by the hotel rooms and we were not informed that either of these events would be taking place in advance. We were initally told there was no space for us to eat at the restaurant that night (which we had planned on for logistical simplicity with my race) and the noise from the partying hosted by the hotel woke me up multiple times after midnight, which was really unfortunate for my races the next day. We let the front desk know upon checkout and they acknowledged that they had received several complaints about the noise and said all they could do was offer us free coffees at the restaurant for the trouble. At a very minimum I would have expected the hotel to inform us that they would be hosting parties in the common areas that are within earshot of the private rooms. If I had known this was going to be scheduled the night before my race I would have made accommodations elsewhere.
