Great stay

Our room was dated (furnishing wise) but was very clean with a comfy bed. It had a very small balcony that overlooked the water and mountains which was perfect for watching and photographing sunset! No breakfast but coffee and tea are always available in the front office.

Great location, little warm

Murphy's is a motel that serves its purpose. Rooms are small with a balcony that overlooks the bay and an RV park. The location is great with access to the docks and downtown area. Biggest issue for us was the warm summer and no A/C. Unfortunately the wind was blowing on our door side with no windows and leaving the balcony open did little to help with airflow. Service was responsive and helpful.

The front desk was fantastic and super helpful. The room itself was fine a bit run down and could use some updates. It was warm the days we were there about 70 and like most places in Alaska there is no air conditioning. We were able to open balcony door and room door for a great cross breeze that made the room comfortable. Beautiful view and within walking distance to both downtown and the harbor.

Potential for Homey and Cute

Carpet was held down with duct tape and packing tape, tub/shower had mildew in the walls and around the tub, tub was very slow to drain, carpet was dirty, box springs should have been covered with a sheet, door mats were old, planters were empty, had to get an extension cord to plug in one of the lamps, one lamp did now work, outdoor chairs were dirty and view of the ocean was blocked by overgrown bushes. So much potential with some deep cleaning, paint, floor covering replacement

Okay but pricy for what you get, very bare bones, needs attention, bed was ok but rest of room not very comfortable

Misleading representation online

First the photos on the webpage are just part of the Motel, The reception area is scary as when we went there, some of the rooms doors where open with no one visible in the area as well are the reception, no one was there, we called and who ever answered could not provided information. That representative provided another phone number in which it was a disconnected phone number. The receptionist came later and at that time we were ready to take off to another place, but the other hotels were full, forcing us to stay in this Dump. I had stay on other places but this one did not sit well with me. The thing about it is if the owner or company that manage this Motel take care of this premises, it can have potential, but like any other company, if money is flowing why we should make it better. Overall I will forced my husband to pay more and stay in another place. Lesson on this one you get what you pay for and just remember Seward AK is not cheap.

2/10 Poor

Missed expectations

Lots of issues regarding the safety and condition of these rooms. The rooms had sliding glass doors with no screens to let in the air from outside. We were on the main level with access to a shared deck facing a busy street with many pedestrians. The water in one of the units only had hot water coming to both the hot and cold lines to the sink. The shower water would jump from hot to cold water unpredictably which wasn’t good for showering. The final straw was discovering an active hornets nest next to the only parking spot available. This is not a hotel, more a motel that is run down and needs updating for security and comfort.

No one at the front desk after 9pm

The hotel itself was fine and it was a good location. There was no one at the front desk after 9pm and that's where the problem begins. We weren't getting in until late, it turned out midnight. I received a text from Murphy's saying that an envelope would be on the front desk with our room key in it. That was true. But the room key said Marina Inn 113. We arrived at midnight It was dark and raining. We (of course) had never been there before. We looked at every door for room 113. We did not see it. We were (slightly) panicking. I thought maybe our room was at the Marina Inn since there was no room 113 at Murphy's. We drove there and long story but the key didn't fit and they also have no one after 9pm. We came back to Murphy's and looked around more. There is a second building next door which we didn't know was Murphy's. We finally found room 113. Inside they conveniently had a map of the property on the desk. Here's a brilliant idea- why not put a map in the envelope with the key for late arriving guests? Then we would have found our room without going all over town and worrying about sleeping in the car. The next day I told the person at the front desk to put a map in the envelopes. I'll bet you they didn't. If they did, great. But come on, It really would have helped us

Mountain view!

Cant beat the view we had. Not sure if it would be worth it without the view. The place itself was old and needs renovation but the location and view were amazing.
