Nice clean rooms and polite and helpful staff
Yvette, 2-night trip

10/10 Excellent

We enjoyed our stay at this charming historic hotel. The room was nicely appointed, and the staff was helpful. We would certainly stay at the St. James again.

The hotel itself is amazing, the staff is friendly and the view inside the courtyard and from the balcony were historically breathtaking.

Room was very nice; staff was courteous and helpful.

10/10 Excellent

We loved the New Orleans vibe. We had a river view quite peaceful. The outside porches need de webbing sweeping and a good painting otherwise everything was enjoyable.
Richard, 4-night trip

6/10 Okay

No breakfast was served on either day of reservation. I was told that the stove was malfunctioning. I just didn’t understand why there wasn’t any “continental” options.
Jason, 2-night trip

2/10 Terrible

Staff called around noon to say the room I had reserved was not available and only room they had was a queen room. I had 3 in my party and no way a one bed would work. Had to cancel and rush to find another hotel at the last minute. Very disappointed. This was t like I had just booked the hotel stay and to get call when we were on the way to Selma was disappointing.
Mia, 1-night trip

10/10 Excellent

Lovely property. There's a beautiful courtyard that is surrounded by all the room doors. Spacious balconies for each floor surround the building. The surrounding area is that of a downtown that has fallen into ruin. Lots of empty builds. Not pleasing to look at, but the hotel is a beauty despite a downtown that is long gone I paid a few dollars extra to have a room on the river side. It is so nice to eat my breakfast on the balcony while looking at the historic Edmund Pettis bridge which is a block away. The room doors need a coat of paint, but otherwise the property is beautiful. I would definitely stay here again

Coming to see the Edmund Pettis Bridge, stay here

The place is beautiful and clean, the bed was beyond comfortable, and the staff could not have been more helpful. If you’re visiting Selma to see the Edmund Pettis Bridge, this is the place to stay

Historical hotel. Enjoyed the stay. if is a shame that the area around is depressed
Michele, 2-night trip

2/10 Terrible

The stay at the St. James was absolutely horrific. After checking and going to my room, we were met with bed bugs. I went to the front desk to let them know of my "welcome" party, I was greeted with a smirk from the front desk clerk and sent to another room and bed bugs were in there as well. The next room had dirty sheets. I was moved 5 times before I got a suitable room, and they didn't want me to have that one because they said it was booked for someone else. But they had to give it to me because they had no other choice. I was not able to get into a room until after midnight. After driving to Selma that morning and attending a family celebration I was tired and was not able to get into a room until the day after I booked it. This is totally unacceptable. We also took pictures.

Quaint historic hotel

It’s a historic hotel with character. It was reminiscent of New Orleans so it has potential, however it’s Selma. The hotel is lovely and quaint. We felt like we were the only ones there. We certainly were the only ones in the dining room. The bed was fabulous and the room was spacious.
Cristine, 1-night trip

Nice clean hotel but we had appreciated a pool in 36 C.
Lars, 1-night trip

Our stay was marred due to the fact that we had to wait over 30 minutes to check-out as there were no staff at the registration desk.
