2/10 Poor
Jan 20, 2025
I have a fainting condition. I need to make sure I have adequate access to food and snacks throughout the day, especially for a demanding day walking around Edinburgh. On our first breakfast I asked for a takeout container to take a few items with us for the day. There was no issue with this and the staff were lovely about it. The next day the manager came to find us at breakfast to tell me I had taken too much food the previous day. I had taken some bread rolls, a couple pastries and a yogurt. Surprised by this I apologised and felt as if I couldn't take anything for the day. This just made my day harder for no reason. The manager made me feel embarrassed, humiliated and stressed out. There was no need to talk to me how she did in front of other guests in the restaurant. I just hope that saving the hotel £2 on leftover breakfast food was worth it for making my day harder. Maybe if someone is asking to take a few things for the day there's a reason, and I feel the manager needed to think about this. I hope in future you can think about how you treat guests with requests like these. Other than that we had a lovely couple of nights away for our anniversary but this put a real downer on the situation.
It's not easy for me to prepare some food to take with me while staying in a hotel and I feel my request was perfectly reasonable.
I wouldn't have mind if I'd been politely told I can't take any food. It's how the manager rudely dealt with it and how she made me feel which was the

Great Hotel shame about the parking
Really nice hotel. Strange location in the grounds of the student halls and I believe the hotel itself used to be student halls. Situated right at the bottom of Arthurs Seat. Restaurant in the hotel was lovely for an evening meal. Breakfast had a great selection of food and catered for Gluten Free and Vegan. Only drawback is the parking. It is very limited and not easy to find.

Nice Christmas weekend away
Lovely modern hotel. Nice bar and restaurant. We weren't very hungry when we arrived but wanted something to eat. The selection of sandwiches was good and the ones we had were very tasty.
Good selection of food at breakfast.
Hotel was approx 35-40 minutes from the centre of Edinburgh, with a few things to look at along the way. There are bus stops nearby, but we choose to walk.
All the staff we had dealings with were very friendly and helpful

A Perfect Stay
We were slightly disappointed with the building when we arrived however once we walked through the door we were very pleasantly surprised. The staff were extremely friendly, the decor was beautiful, our room was very spacious. We didn’t want for anything with beautiful shampoo conditioners and body wash. It was very peaceful.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return.
Thank you to all the team for making us feel very welcome

Great hotel stay, tricky for Uber though
Nice room, very nice & attentive staff. We had a slow shower drain that was reported and fixed right away. Breakfast was best of our trip across Scotland. Only negative was we had trouble with Uber and Bolt pickups. Everyone would pickup at "reception center" which we had trouble locating and made for several bad transit experiences. We finally found the reception center on our last day and it is a bit of a walk from the hotel desk/stairs where you typically exit daily.

Great Hotel
Brilliant staff and great hotel. I’ve been returning here for years with my wife for our anniversary only slight hick up is that the breakfast is no longer order at the table and it’s a buffet which is only a small change but that does mean you have a more limited menu. Overall however great hotel and I will return

Dog friendly?
Dog friendly hotel? £30 charge for the dog package extortionate and dog not allowed in the restaurant. Arrived after a 4 hour journey at around 2.15 to be told our room isn’t ready. I know check in is 3 pm but this isn’t and never will be good enough when you’re paying £170 a night. We went for a coffee in the bar and asked to be informed when our room was ready. Not happening nobody’s going out of there way here. Room lovely and great location albeit in the campus. A real dog friendly restaurant across the road called the Salisbury well worth a visit.

The staff were very friendly and were willing to answer any silly question I had. The hotel itself is located outside city centre, so you do need to take a bus to get in - but there are so many connections, and The Scholar is very close to the bus stop. The room was clean, and given that you aren’t quite in the heart of the city, quiet. I would book again.

Great stay overall
Overall lovely hotel with friendly attentive staff (very rare these days). Room was outrageously hot when I arrived and didn’t manage to cool it down in time for sleeping which was a problem. I also wished food service ran until later - I checked in at 9.20 and it was already finished. Having access to electric car charging a HUGE bonus!
