Substandard
during the afternoon of our second day of stay the heating and cooling unit in our room broke and could not be repaired. We had to move to a different room and the replacement room was substandard (toilet was cycling through refill throughout the evening and the shower door leaked profusely). The hotel staff would not provide any discount on the room (based on our inconvenience) because we booked through hotels.com. I would like a credit for my room on 12/31/24.

Probably wouldn't stay again
I normally stay at the Marriott across the street and expected this to be commensurate. It was decidely more run-down and i was surprised. Carpet in common areas in the lobby was super worn and needs replacing. Loud music from the bar 24/7. Valets and front desk staff disinterested. The smell of pot when you walk in. The room itself was nice and comfortable but cleaning lacked attention to detail and there areas in the corners that were missed and obviously dirty/gross especially in the bathroom and by the front door. I traveled with 2 dogs weighing 30 lbs eaxh and told the front desk. I was made to pay a $50 deposit that wasn't disclosed when booking. I figured it was because i booked through a 3rd party website i missed it. Another guest i met said she was traveling with her pet and not made to pay a deposit. That seemed enforced inconsistent ly. Room service for breakfast took 45 minutes for 2 meals which were ice cold and obviously had potatoes eaten from one tray. It was as though someone took a handful from one dish and not the other. Overall the bed was comfortable and we were able to choose a room on a low floor that wasn't near a lot of occupied rooms through the app in case the dogs barked: those were the highlights. The Marriott is probably where ill stay next time.

Dogs are treated better than 3rd party bookings
We have visited this hotel multiple times, however- something about this stay has made us feel very “ othered” and not treated the same as other guests. For example- we were not offered valet services, nor were we offered upgrades or dining accommodation, our room is less than satisfactory. However, tonight to top off this experience- my sons and I were playing a game in the lounge- typically Hilton provides a caraf of water to their guests-in the lobby along with teas or coffee ( not here) so, they would like water- my eldest asks the concierge at the desk as we have a direct view of what’s available at his feet for a bottle of water. And he tells my son he can buy a bottle Mind you- we paid exactly the same price as what was listed directly through hiltons site but opted this route because of convenience… After my son returned and told me he was offered the option to pay 5$ at their convenience stand we watched the guests arriving for check in being offered bottled water not only for themselves but their dog. You can only imagine how deeply I hurt for my children, but the absolute dissatisfaction and disappointment I have about what I thought was perhaps our little escape hotel away from home. We specifically planned our Christmas retreat here to Richmond because of the last time we were here in July but I have to say - pretty sure it’s changed hands because the experience is below expectations and it’s been made clear 3rd party bookings don’t get the same care here

Scary
I booked a king sized bed and when I checked in they said they no longer have king sized beds only double. When I asked why? He just said because we don’t have anymore and then mentioned that I booked through a third party website. I asked for a price break and he said I was already getting that through the third party. The room looked okay but we never travel without a black light and WOW. We couldn’t even touch the furniture and were scared to walk in certain parts of the room. The shower was a glass shower, as requested, although when I checked in and reiterated that detail he said he thought this room had one. The safety bar was coming off the wall and one of the body wash bottles that was supposed to be fixed to the wall was off. We also discovered a hole in the ceiling of the closet next to the front door which was a bit unsettling.
