Hotel starting to look a bit tired and definitely overpriced for the standard of the rooms

We stayed at The George for a few days away. This was over the hottest few days of the year. Our room was on the very top floor (attic). The room was very small with a small window which faced the sun. As you climbed the stairs (no lift), you could feel the air getting hotter and hotter. The heat was unbearable with only a small fan 'for comfort'. No one checked in during our stay to see how we were coping.
We ate at The Grill restaurant one night. The menu was limited, confused and overpriced.
Breakfast was a buffet but felt 'mass produced' with staff delivering hot foot arriving before you'd completed cereal. It felt like we were in the way and staff were trying to get us out asap.
We had been so looking to our stay at The George as we'd eaten there few years ago. But we left disappointed and underwhelmed.

Lovely welcome from Madison in reception who understands what hospitality should be and tries very hard (and succeeds!) in providing it.
Stayed in a junior suite which was clean, comfortable, quiet and perfect for our needs. Will have no hesitation in returning.

The George is an absolute joy. From the warm welcome of the staff down to the cosy log burner, the food/drinks and the exquisite rooms. An absolute gem in the heart of Rye, we would highly recommend a stay here if you want to escape the daily grind and just chill and unwind.

Lovely hotel with friendly and helpful staff, located in the centre of Rye. Our evening meal was amazing and there was also a great breakfast.
Only downside is no hotel carpark. There is parking a 5 minute walk away downhill, which is closed on market days. We did manage to park on the street outside, but that is limited to 2 hours.
Would definitely recommend the George though!!

Lovely hotel, friendly staff and beautiful interior throughout the hotel. Cosy rooms, breakfast could have been a little tastier. Overall enjoyed our time and will visit again in the future.

Beautiful hotel in great location. Service rated lower because breakfast order took an hour and the breakfast chef was wearing a woollen beanie instead of a chef’s hat!
