January stay 2025
I requested ground level room and was changed last minute to cater ti group booking, at time of check in was told it was ground then when I went to check it was upper level to which the receptionist said her manager had changed my room for the group booking, There’s only stairs to upper level which made carrying my suitcase up the two flights difficult, hence reason I requested ground level as my last stay with my kids I was on upper level. When I travel from Perth I land in Auckland and will always drive straight to the north And have chosen Kingsgate as my halfway point to stay, plus I love the location and other than the stairs and last minute changes, enjoy my stay there.

Very well positioned hotel being by the sea front and close to Paihia ferries and restaurants. Breakfast was below average & better options available within walking distance. Avoid, if possible, a ground floor room as cars are parked 1metre from your bedroom window.

Perfect location, clean room with comfortable bed, walking distance to the wharf and restaurants. Please note that you can't check in before 2 and it seems that there are more rooms than parking places so when they are full you may not have a space.

Very disappointed.
Great location, should be a really good hotel, but expensive as stayed over Xmas and new year, Wifi completely useless, couldn’t connect, ridiculously slow speeds, keeps logging you off. Spoke to reception on a number of occasions, they know there is a problem, but IT is centrally procured and they can do nothing to fix. Not good enough in this day and age. Severely limited us as struggled to communicate with family, book excursions, etc. eventually found by chance you could sit outside library and use free wifi which was 100 times better. Also some serious defects in room due to age and lack of maintenance that left us continually having to be careful not to break fragile fixtures and fittings. Staff mostly very friendly and helpful, where they could be, and great location, but needs updating.

Not relaxing and uninviting
Not nearly enough car parks for guests. We had to walk for miles to park the car. With kids this was a deal breaker. The staff were rude or couldnt speak english. When we asked for a table at the run down bar and restaurant we were stared at and slowly backed away. We also had people open our room door before 9am each morning and without knocking. A staff member was sprinting through the hallway and collided with me and my 1 year old and 3 year old at full speed. No lifts or help to get up the illegally narrow stairways with standard suitcases. The shower pressure was so pathetic we had to fill a beach bucket to wash the kids. There is no hot spa even they its advertised and crossed out all over the property. This place was terrible.
