It was my first trip to Zermatt. It is a place with spectacular scenery and a massive ski area. One cool thing is that you can ski to the adjoining Cervinia ski area in Italy for the day. Just make sure you plan your day to get back in time.

A great location for skiing and all outdoor sports year round. Beautiful, very clean town, with no cars other than residents and local taxis, making walking a pleasure. Great restaurants for all tastes, from basic to gourmet dining.

Though they make a point of saying that motor vehicles are not allowed in Zermatt, watch out for the equally dangerous bicycles and hundreds of small electric carts and taxis, all of which assume the road is theirs alone.

Cute little ski town, truly a one of a kind experience. Seeing the Matterhorn in person was well worth it. Switzerland in general is experience and Zermatt even more so. Since it is a carless city, the taxi fares add up quickly.
"A true rarity—Hotel Jägerhof is hands down the best hotel we have ever stayed in. From the second we stepped inside, we knew we had booked the right place.
The hotel offers so many thoughtful touches: a delicious buffet breakfast, complimentary transport to and from the train station, and warm, friendly staff who made us feel welcome from the start. Our room was on the first floor and had lovely mountain views (not the Matterhorn, but still stunning). The balcony was shared, but it never felt intrusive thanks to a partial privacy shield, and it was the perfect spot to enjoy the scenery.
What made the location extra special was its setting just off the busier streets of Zermatt. This turned out to be a huge advantage—everything was still walkable, but it was a little quieter. During our stay there was a meteor shower, and because it was slightly darker than the town center, we had the incredible experience of watching meteors streak across the mountains from right outside our hotel. Truly unforgettable.
The bathroom was spacious, with the added luxury of a towel heater. The hotel itself is beautifully maintained—not outdated at all—and carries a charming ski lodge character. There’s also an outdoor patio seating area if you want more space than your balcony offers.
Overall, Hotel Jägerhof combines comfort, charm, and location in a way that feels exceptional. We can’t recommend it enough and would return in a heartbeat."

I would highly recommend and would consider booking this hotel again. The one thing I will say is that I was amazed at the poor, grumpy attitude of some of the breakfast attendants when guests are genuinely being friendly, considerate and kind. Not every inadvertent "mis-step/faux pas" is done intentionally or with malice to offend or cause issues or inconvenience. Grumpy employees can ruin a holiday unnecessarily."

"Great budget hotel just off the center of Zermatt. We had a nice (albeit tight) balcony with a glimpse of The Matterhorn. The room was clean but unfortunately no air conditioning and it was quite warm in the room. There’s a refrigerator which was very convenient. Stepping into the shower isn’t designed for short people which was a bit awkward. We had to check in at another hotel, but it was only steps away. Would stay here again for convenience and cleanliness."

"The front desk was very friendly and helpful. Although hotel is not far from train station, we were offered to and from complementary shuttle. The shuttle drivers were very nice. The basement room we stayed in was very spacious with a huge washroom and a kitchenette. House keeping was very tidy. The pool and hot tub was refreshing after a long day of hiking.
