I grew up in Portsmouth in the 1960s-1970s. A lot has changed (for the better) while keeping the charm of the its history and that smaller-town feel. I found the downtown area remarkably clean, safe, & comfortable both at night and during the day.

Portsmouth is a small city but there were tons of shops and dining options close by. It was very picturesque and felt safe and walkable. We had never been there before, and it really made an impression. Super happy we stayed there.

I had lived in Portsmouth for over 20 years and moved away 10 years ago. Portsmouth Is an unbelievably artistic and creative community but over the past 15 years, it has gotten a little bit to over developed and commercial. But still Fantastic.
"Great hotel. Friendly staff. Clean. Comfortable bed. Nice TV. Small but good gym and a wonderful breakfast buffet. The cookies in the late afternoon were a nice bonus. Will be staying there again if/when we come back to Maine."
